I don't know. I know Southland Tales wasn't great, but I am going to try The Box. *crosses fingers*
His new one is called The Box. It's about a box that if you push a button you get a million dollars, but someone you don't know will die. Even if you won't be blamed for it, would you push the button? It should provide for some interesting characterization. It's got Diaz and Cyclops and Frank Langella (the bad guy from Dave).
And yeah, I've seen S Darko. Well, the first part anyway. I couldn't sit through the whole movie. The only thing they did right was to get the same girl that played his younger sister in the original. It was nice to see the actress again. I guess they did good with most of the casting, but that just goes to show it isn't the cast that makes the movie. In S Darko you had a great cast, but a crappy script. In something like Paranormal Activity, you had only three people in the entire movie, all unknowns, very little budget, and a great script. And it was awesome. It even outsold (in it's second week, mind you) Saw VI. No kidding.
The movie is about a paradox. When Donnie got up and left, the universe started to basically unravel. If you watch it carefully, every character does his or her own part to lead Donnie to make the decision to go back, and are mostly unaware they are doing so. Donnie knows by the end of the movie that everything is going to be okay because he set things right by going back. It is really hard to wrap your mind around, and I admit to having to watch two commentaries on it to fully understand, but when I did I gained a whole new respect for that movie.
