X-Men: First Class, Epic or Awful?

In the past the X-men movies (for me at least) haven't really been as good as some of the more recent super hero flicks (Dark Knight, Iron Man (1 or 2), Thor, etc.). Despite that they have still been worth seeing for me, other than X-men Origins: Wolverine, that was a steaming load of shit.

Based on the trailers and commercials do you guys think X-Men: First Class looks cool or stupid?

I think it looks pretty bad, but my brother is really excited for it so I'll probably be dragged to see it no matter what, but I was wondering what you guys thought about it.

X-men First Class is a PRIME EXAMPLE!!!!!! of why you can NOT! make prequels. you're too tempted to play with the dynamics of characters and too tempted to throw twists in where they are not intended or needed. you fuck up a perfectly good movie!

sorry for going on a tear right there, i did plan to make my own thread but since its already here....why not.

Truthfully it was one of the better X-men movies. Hope that they can make sequels and include better muties.

movie wise yeah, it was cool, cold war, nukes, missles, etc. etc. but story wise it makes no sense, if prof X and mystic were (basically) brother and sister then in the first or even second xmen movie they would have had a better dialog or scenes or anything, they only played on charles and eric having a past. but now they are saying they were super close at since they were children....it makes no sense. not to mention the numerous other conflicts it has made.

Thanks to a friend, I got to see this movie the day before it came out into theatres. And i loved it. At the beginning, I couldnt catch on too much because there really was no PLOT. Just random shit happening. But when it came to the late middle, it was pretty good. Overall a four star.

just take it for what it is, i don't look at it like a prequel, besides it was loads better than X3 and Wolverine.

First Class, and I will say this once, is not a prequel but a reboot of the series, like Batman, Superman (for the third time it seems), and Spiderman, the movie itself was put together quite well, and runs like the original comic book series

I wrote this thread before the movie came out, but after seeing it I thought it was pretty good, but all the inconsistencies with the other films really bothered me.

Gunny, the film IS a prequel, not a reboot. It was always advertised and refereed to as a prequel and because of that the whole fact that Prof. X and Mystique were basically brother and sister in First class and didn't even say a single word to one and other in the other three movies (I don't even think Mystique speaks in the first three films, other than when she transforms into other people), despite being several scene together, really bothers me.

Also how in any way does it run like the original comics? Just a few of the differences: Prof. X was already crippled and in his 40's when he started the X-men, not a college student. Beast is the only original X-man in the movie as Cyclops, Jean Gray, Ice-man and Angel were sidelined for a team of mostly C-list X-men characters. In first class the mutants join a government division, in the original series one of the biggest obstacles for the original x-men was the government wanting to stop or control them because they believed they were dangerous.

As a standalone film, the movie is good, maybe even great, but all weird inconsistencies with the other movies and comics really left a really bad taste in my mouth. I would of liked it to be a reboot, not a prequel, as I think they probably made the best X-men movie as of yet, and I do hope they make a sequel, but that is probably just going to invite more inconsistencies.

At the very least, it is a whole lot better than X-men: Origins Wolverine, I'm still having nightmares about the scene where he boxes Blob while Will-i-am watches...

Its more of they are "like" brother and sister, in the comic her and magneto had a child, nightcrawler.

Thats basiclly the comics, I grew up and still to this day read X-men comics, the comics came and come first (leave the dirty jokes to yourselves) the movies are for those too lazy to read in my opinion

the Blob vs Wolverine scene was taken from a 90s Wolverine comic where its Juggernaut vs Wolverine, minus the boxing ring.
